Tui Na is an ancient form of therapeutic massage in which a practitioner works with a patient’s muscle groups and energetic system. This distinguishes Tui Na as a different massage system from other purely physical techniques used in the West. Tui Na developed to alleviate muscle tension and treat injuries occurring during prolonged martial training at Buddhist and Taoist monasteries. Over time Tui Na’s varied and effective techniques found their way into mainstream Chinese medical practice. Translated as push and grasp, Tui Na manipulates the points and channels along the meridian system to free the flow of qi through the body. It is particularly good for muscle and joint problems. At Hanmer Holistic Healing we use Tui Na to help alleviate conditions such as back pain or sports injuries. We can also use Tui Na to relieve tension, stress anxiety and help sleep. Tui Na can be done through light weight loose fitting clothing.
